Hi Jazz folks,
Read the following article regarding Pentatonic scales. This will provide a foundation for further study on Jazz improvisation. We will apply this knowledge to Blues in the near future.
You may choose to read the article in one sitting, or divide and conquer this week:
For Tuesday: Read the beginning, up to and including the Bobby McFerrin video.
For Wednesday: Read from "So Why Does the Pentatonic Scale Sound Good?" until "Where Does the Pentatonic Scale Come From?"
For Thursday: Read "Who Uses Pentatonic Scales Now?" to "The Pentatonic Scale on Piano."
For Friday: Read "Hearing Pentatonic Scales" through to the end of the article.
Be ready to spell out pentatonic scales in all 12 Major keys for your instrument.
Remember: Every major pentatonic scale can be "re-spelled" as a minor pentatonic scale!
Example: C D E G A (major) could be rearranged as the relative minor-- A C D E G...
Have a great week!
